The 2025 Hyundai IONIQ 5 marks a striking evolution from its predecessor. Notable improvements include enhanced battery performance, faster charging, and updated styling, underlining its futuristic appeal. Hyundai's refinements extend to an optimized electric drivetrain, delivering smoother acceleration and an impressive range, which is ideal for Ontario's diverse driving conditions.
What’s New for 2025?
The Ioniq 5 has been on the market since 2022, but the high-performance version debuted this model year. Sporting the "N" badge, it stands apart from the standard Ioniq 5 with a redesigned grille, a roof spoiler, larger 21-inch wheels, upgraded brakes, and several other unique features.
Unmatched Performance: Power and Efficiency
The Hyundai Ioniq 5 N is powered by an 84-kWh battery and dual electric motors, generating a combined output of 601 horsepower and 545 lb-ft of torque under normal conditions. Engaging the “N Grin Boost” feature temporarily increases output to 641 horsepower and 568 lb-ft of torque, enabling a rapid 3.4-second sprint from 0 to 100 km/h. Without this boost, acceleration is still impressive at 3.5 seconds.
A unique feature of the Ioniq 5 N is its simulated eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, enhancing the driving experience. Drivers can also tailor various performance settings, such as steering response, suspension stiffness, electronic stability control, and driving modes for track or drag racing. The battery supports ultra-fast charging of up to 800 volts/350 kW, and when connected to a compatible DC fast charger, it can recharge from 10 to 80% in approximately 18 minutes.
Safety First: Advanced Driver-Assistance Features
Hyundai's promise to safety is evident in the suite of driver-assistance features integrated into the IONIQ 5. The vehicle includes adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, collision avoidance, and an extensive airbag system. These characteristics work together to provide a secure driving experience, ensuring you're well-protected on Ontario's busy roads.
As of this writing, the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Management (NHTSA) has not yet provided a safety rating for the 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 N. However, it partially tested the 2024 Ioniq 5, awarding it four out of five stars for frontal crash protection. Similarly, the Insurance Institution for Highway Safety (IIHS) has not yet crash-tested the Ioniq 5 N, but the 2024 Ioniq 5 earned a Top Safety Pick designation. It received the highest "Good" rating for both traditional frontal crash tests and the updated side crash test, which is designed to better reflect impacts from larger SUVs.
Tech-Savvy Upgrades: Infotainment and Innovation
At the heart of the 2025 IONIQ 5 lies a state-of-the-art infotainment system. A larger, 12.3-inch responsive touchscreen with navigation, eight-speaker Bose premium audio, enhanced voice recognition, and seamless smartphone connectivity ensure drivers remain in command. Furthermore, its N-exclusive heated steering wheel with paddle shifters, ambient lighting, USB-C ports, wireless charger, 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, and head-up display make this car the favourite of every tech-interested driver. Continuous over-the-air updates keep the technology cutting edge, making every drive an immersive experience.
Striking Design: Exterior & Interior Excellence
The IONIQ 5's exterior design captivates with aerodynamic curves and a distinctive silhouette, reflecting its commitment to both aesthetics and efficiency. High-quality materials, spacious seating for five, and versatile cargo space of 1,680 litres offer a premium driving environment. The cabin is thoughtfully designed to provide comfort and convenience, whether you’re commuting in the city or embarking on a weekend getaway.
Trust & Reliability Honors
In terms of reliability, J.D. Power had not yet rated the 2025 Ioniq 5 N at the time of writing. Still, it gave the 2024 Ioniq 5 a predicted reliability score of 33 out of 100, suggesting it is expected to be "less reliable than the average new car." This assessment was based on data from the 2022 and 2023 models. While the Ioniq 5 did not receive any individual awards in J.D. Power's 2024 U.S. Vehicle Dependability Study, Hyundai ranked 13th among all automakers, placing slightly below the industry average.
